SIWO US’s SWC Series comprises advanced waterborne polyurethane dispersions built on polycarbonate polyols, engineered for the extreme demands of the oil and gas industry. These high-performance coatings form tough, flexible films with exceptional hydrolysis resistance and chemical stability in harsh offshore and subsea environments. By leveraging polycarbonate chemistry, SWC dispersions deliver long-lasting protection against saltwater, acids, and hydrocarbons – critical for offshore platforms, pipelines, and refineries. As low-VOC, waterborne systems, SWC products also meet strict environmental regulations and provide safer, more sustainable anti-corrosive coating solutions for industrial use.

The key to SWC’s durability is its polycarbonate backbone. Compared to conventional polyester or polyether polyols, polycarbonate diols confer superior hydrolysis resistance and oil/chemical resistance. SWC films exhibit excellent water, solvent, and weather resistance, low water absorption, and high mechanical strength, ensuring long-term stability in fluctuating temperatures and humidity. These coatings withstand industrial chemicals and aggressive brines without softening or breaking down. In addition, SWC coatings maintain strong adhesion to steel and other substrates, high abrasion resistance, and good flexibility, which together prevent cracking or delamination under mechanical stress. Formulated without toxic solvents (no NMP or DMAC), SWC dispersions cure to hard, non-yellowing films that extend maintenance intervals and ensure reliable performance on oil platforms and equipment.

For structural steel, tanks, pressure vessels, and subsea equipment, SWC-based coatings serve as robust anti-corrosive primers or topcoats. In typical formulations (film builds from 100 up to 1000 µm), these coatings form an impermeable barrier against moisture and oxygen. Thanks to the polycarbonate content, SWC primers resist rust and pitting under salt-spray conditions and acid gas exposure. The chemical resistance and toughness of SWC films make them ideal for protecting offshore platforms, onshore refineries, and topside structures where long-term durability is essential. Engineers rely on SWC anti-corrosive coatings to meet demanding standards for corrosion protection while minimizing maintenance.
The splash zone – where structures alternate between seawater immersion and atmospheric exposure – requires coatings with both water-impermeability and UV/oxygen resistance. SWC dispersions excel in this intermediate environment. Their waterborne formulation enables excellent wet-film application and curing, while the cured polycarbonate polyurethane film blocks saltwater and oxygen penetration. An SWC splash-zone coating remains stable despite constant wetting/drying cycles and intense sunlight. It also resists wear from wave action and wind-blown sand. By creating a durable barrier against corrosive sea elements and contaminants, SWC splash-zone coatings maintain platform integrity and safety without peeling or chalking.
Inside and outside pipelines, SWC-based linings protect against abrasive slurry and corrosive fluids (oil, gas, water, CO₂, H₂S, etc.). These linings often require very thick films (1,000–10,000 µm). Polycarbonate PUD linings provide exceptional chemical and oil resistance, with toughness to endure internal pressures and pigging operations. In fact, polycarbonate polyol urethanes are a preferred choice for oilfield pipe linings and components. The SWC series can be formulated for one-component or two-component systems suited to pipe-coating equipment. The result is a seamless, highly adhesive coating layer that protects pipelines from corrosion and erosion over decades of service.

Waterborne SWC coatings align with the industry’s shift toward greener chemistries. By replacing solvent-borne urethanes, they dramatically reduce VOC emissions and worker exposure. Leading industry sources note that polycarbonate-based PUDs deliver “tough and durable resins comparable to solvent-based urethanes” while being low-VOC and eco-friendly. In addition, the intrinsic durability of SWC coatings means less frequent recoating and lower maintenance waste. This improves lifecycle environmental footprint for offshore and midstream assets. SIWO’s polycarbonate waterborne systems thus support oil & gas companies’ regulatory compliance and sustainability initiatives, without compromising the high-performance requirements of anti-corrosive, splash-zone, or pipeline-liner applications.
